CLINICAL UPDATE: Supplement Cocktail in Randomized Trial Made Trauma Wounds Heal Twice as Fast
In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, 20 trauma patients were given oral antioxidants (vitamin A, C, E, zinc, selenium and glutamine) or placebo for two weeks. Time to wound closure in the supplemented group was five weeks while it took 10 weeks for wound closure to occur in the placebo group. Interestingly, the authors noted that “despite normal plasma levels, intracellular deprivation may occur,” indicating that intracellular measures of nutrients were more clinically relevant than serum levels. CLINICAL UPDATE: Office Workers Gain Energy When Given Vitamin C at Work
A double-blind randomized trial on 141 healthy volunteers aged 20-49 years old was performed in which one group received 10 grams of vitamin C intravenously while a placebo group received saline intravenously. Fatigue scores, oxidative stress and plasma vitamin C and side effects were all measured. Fatigue levels, at two hours and one day post supplementation, were significantly reduced in the group receiving vitamin C, especially in those whose initial vitamin C levels were particularly low. No major side effects were reported in either group. (Nutrition Journal, January 2012)

The Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation (SSPF) and Trim Nutrition, a leader in wellness supplements and sustained energy products, announced today that the third annual Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg 5K Run, Walk, N Wheelathon is March 23, part of festivities for the IZOD IndyCar Series season-opener around the street circuit in Florida. Working in tandem, SSPF and Trim Nutrition, official nutrition partner for the IZOD IndyCar Series and Firestone Indy Lights, will be responsible for the logistics and operations of the event.
“The Honda Grand Prix 5K Run, Walk, N Wheelathon benefiting Sam’s Foundation and All Children’s Hospital is a wonderful part of what will be an overall exciting weekend at the ‘World’s Fastest Spring Break Party’ in St. Petersburg,” said Tim Ramsberger, Vice President and General Manager of the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. “We’re excited to help the community and we expect a large turnout for this unique event.”
All proceeds will benefit SSPF and All Children’s Hospital to raise money for paralysis/spinal cord injury research and encourage individuals with physical disabilities to pursue active lifestyles, maintain healthy lives through physical fitness and realize their ability to meet new challenges and regain confidence.
Participants will have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to run, walk or wheel their way around the very course that the stars of the IZOD IndyCar Series will be competing on later that weekend.
